What causes high blood pressure in young adults?

It was earlier believed that high blood pressure in young adults was the result of little known heart or kidney diseases. But with time and further research this premise was proved wrong. It is now a fact that high blood pressure in young adults begins for almost the same reasons and manifests itself in almost the same proportions.

Most young adults who have been diagnosed with high blood pressure come under the classification of primary hypertensive patients. Just as hypertension and its causes are not really understood in adults, it is not comprehended in those who are younger. For some youngsters developing high blood pressure is a result of hereditary. The other causes are a very bad lifestyle, with bad eating habits and absolute lack of cardio-vascular stimulation.

The effects of high blood pressure in young adults must not be mistaken to be the same as those of adults suffering from the disease. In fact it is extremely volatile, since youngsters will have a lot of hormonal changes going on in their bodies. This in turn can affect blood pressure to a large extent. Bad eating habits, coupled with lack of exercise as well as a surging of hormones, both testosterone as well as estrogen result in a great deal of effect over blood pressure.

How exactly hormones affect blood pressure has not really been understood by science as of now. But research has shown that once teenagers hit puberty, their susceptibility to high blood pressure is more. All factors mentioned above can play a role in this and as parents one will have to keep a watchful eye. This will be in terms of diet as well as the exercise they receive. Controlling high blood pressure is possible, but having it develop so early in life can lead to adverse effects.

The one thing that is not found in any website is congenital defects that may have gone unnoticed as a child/baby. I for instance had a defect in my aorta, Aortic coarctation, that was not found/diagnosed till my late 30s. So, I think websites and doctors need to make an effort to put this into their information databank so people don’ suffer.
