The reasons and consequences of high blood pressure

The world is moving at a rapid pace. In the rat race to get ahead, many people tend to ignore their own health. High blood pressure causes and effects are often neglected in the race for success. There are several blood pressure causes and this is largely related to the lifestyle we lead. Bad sleeping and eating habits, unreasonable working hours and the stress related to work are some of the main causes of blood pressure.

High blood pressure is also caused by another illness called hypertension. While this used to affect only the aged earlier, it is now known to occur in youngsters as well. High blood pressure can also be attributed to a number of other illnesses such as those related to the kidney, cancerous or benign growths as well as narrowing of the main artery of the heart – the aorta. Just as in men, women too can have specific reasons on why high blood occurs. Pregnant women run the risk of developing pre-ecclampsia, where high blood pressure will have to be controlled in order to have a normal pregnancy. It can also result due to an abnormal reaction to birth control pills. Hyperthyroidism in men and women can also have a side-effect in terms of development of high blood pressure.

These causes can easily be controlled with medication. However, there are other causes that cannot be controlled by medicine or by social restraint. Some people are prone to high blood pressure thank to their race or even hereditary. These causes make you susceptible to danger.

If these causes of high blood pressure are neglected, it can lead to heart ailments, fatal heart attacks, kidney failures and even a stroke. Blood pressure is defined as the force with which blood pushes against the artery walls. This is as the heart pumps blood throughout the body. A drop or increase in pressure can be very dangerous.
